Getting there and around
Airport
Barcelona International Airport, commonly known as El Prat Airport, is located 10 km (6.2 mi) southwest from Barcelona.
From airport to city centre
The Aerobus is the express bus service that runs regularly between the airport and the city centre. You can catch the Aerobus from outside both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The Aerobus will then take you to the city centre where you can alight either at Placa Espanya or Placa de Catalunya.
The RENFE train will take you from Barcelona airport to the city centre where you can change for the metro system at either Barcelona Sants (Sants Estacio) or Passeig de Gracia stations.
The taxi station central is in the exit of the terminals. There is generally no shortage of taxis available to/from the centre. It's a half-hour ride.
Public transport
The metro is the easiest way to get around most of the city. You may need buses, trams or suburban trains to reach some places.
Taxis are an affordable alternative to public transport. If you want to get around in the very heart of the city a taxi may not be the best choice. Most of the city centre is pedestrianized and the roads that go through the centre can be quite small and congested. In such circumstances you have two main options, the Barcelona transport system (metro and buses) or walking.
Buying individual tickets for each journey is not economical or time effective unless you will be making only 3 journeys on public transport. Much better is to buy either a T10 (10 journeys) or the travel and discount card called the Barcelona Card.
